Overview:  TRC - Online! is proud to host the 7th BPA Sponsored "Russian Campaign PBEM Tournament".  This single-elimination tournament will be used to crown a "Wood-worthy" Russian Campaign champion.  (Plaque to be provided by the BPA.)  Play-offs for 3rd to 6th place for all that reach quarterfinals. 6th place and higher will receive points for the 2004 WBC "Caesar" award.  All matches are AREA rated.  Can you succeed where the Wermacht failed?  Those accepting this challenge should contact George Karahalios.

Personnel:    GM:  George Karahalios        Assistant GMs:  Gary Dickson & Doug James

Entry Qualifications:

bulletMust be a member of the BPA, 'Associate' level or higher.
bulletMust have an email account.

Game Format:

The scenario used is the BPA PBEM VII Scenario.  The PBeM Procedure details the default manner in which each tourney match is to be played.  Please note that both players can use any modifications they wish as long as they both agree, inform the Gamemaster, and adhere to the tourney format.   All games are automatically AREA rated and are reported by the Gamemaster at the conclusion of each round.

Weather-Adjustments:  Option Schoose

The following rule is intended to mitigate extreme weather results and only applies to 1941.  The German may use TWO Stukas during light mud weather.  A total of three Stukas may be used in September/October and November/December 1941, combined.  The German may choose not to use an available Stuka in Sep/Oct 41.  No Stukas are available in MUD weather.

Example: "Light Mud" is rolled in Sep/Oct 41. The Germans are entitled to use two Stukas.  They may, however, choose to gamble and only use ONE that turn in order to get TWO if the Nov/Dec 41 weather turns out to be light mud.

Time Limits:

Each match is given three months to complete the ten turns.  At the designated tournament round ending date, all matches will be resolved.  If there are any games still going on, the winner will be judged to be the player who took the least time.  Any disputes on this issue will be resolved based on the end of turn reports and any e-mail correspondence records.  Note: There will be no extensions and no adjudicated games.

Match Assignments:

All initial seeding will be done by TRC AREA rating.  Sufficient byes will be awarded in the first round to ensure that no byes will be given in later rounds.  Byes will be assigned randomly.

Rules Disputes & Errata:

All disputes or questions about the game rules are to be directed to the Gamemaster. The GM rulings will be final. The GM Assistant will handle disputes and questions in matches involving the GM.

Dice:

May be handled in any manner agreed upon by both players; die roll web sites http://www.gamerz.net/shadowdice and www.irony.com are strongly recommended.  When using a die roller, the phasing player must e-mail the impulse's moves prior to sending for the combat die rolls. If all combat is sent in one mailing, all the possible A1/EX/AR/DR results for each combat must be included (except the last combat). It may be necessary for the Defender to advise the attacker of his D1/EX choices prior to the second impulse. A player may choose to resolve one combat at a time or do them all at once with all possible results listed. If resolving them individually, a player must resolve (and communicate the results of) a battle completely before resolving another battle.

Playing Aides:

The recommended TRC PBeM tools is the "Above the Fields" software developed by Hank Burkhalter and available at www.abovethefields.com as well as www.russiancampaign.net.  (This tool runs on PCs with Win9x/00/NT/XP.)  In addition to allowing the play of the game completely on the computer, it also allows the generation of a text file containing the player's unit positions and thus is of benefit even if only one player can use the aide.  If any discrepancies are observed between the physical and electronic equivalents, the physical component takes precedence.
